With warm weather on the horizon for much of the U.S., now is the time to consider the look, feel, and structure of outdoor spaces in 2020. To that end, we’ve listed a few of the latest additions to the industry’s deck and railing product catalogs, from boards and infill panels to advanced fastening systems:
MoistureShield
Elevate capped wood composite decking is designed for and aimed at the entry-level market. The composite is manufactured from 95% recycled content and features a protective cap that shields the boards from impact, corrosion, and harsh weather damage. The boards are also engineered to provide protection against moisture absorption, warping, rotting, and insect damage. At launch the line is available in two colors: lake fog, a soft gray, and canoe, a forest brown.
Fence Quarter
Fence Quarter’s pre-assembled rail inserts may be installed into any existing posts and rails on-site. Each rail insert kit includes all of the tools required for installation. Insert styles include Landmark, a classic vertical railing style; Torrey Pine, a clean-line design with two rows of grid squares at the top; and Bellevue, an elegant geometric pattern. They are available pre-primed, pre-painted in white, or natural for on-site staining or weathering.
National Nail
The CAMO Starter Clips provide a face-fastening solution for the first and last boards of grooved deck projects, designed for use with the CAMO EdgeClip and EdgeXClip, as well as the CAMO Drive deck fastening tool and tool guide. Taken together, the CAMO clip products are designed not to show above the surface of the deck. To install, users line up the clip with the back edge of the joist and the center of the cross joist, fasten the clip at the cross joist, and then tilt and insert the deck board into the clip.
Nova USA
The ExoShield Wood Stain provides a protective layer against fungi, water, and UV damage for exterior wood decking, siding, or outdoor furniture. The stain is made from a blend of Tung oil, UV blockers, fungicide, and trans-oxide pigments, which together provide a naturally durable, color-stable finish designed to improve wood stability and reduce cracking and warping. It may be used on both hardwood and softwood surfaces.
Burger & Cie
The GRAD underdeck structure system, new this year to the U.S. market, uses a series of aluminum rails, grad clips, and pedestals to fasten wood or composite deck boards in place without screws or separate fasteners. The grad clips are pre-mounted on the aluminum rails, with a variety of board width configurations available, and can withstand up to 396 pounds of pressure per fixing point against warping. The rails resist moss, algae, salt, water, UV, insect and fungus damage, and do not decompose or undergo shrinkage. Pedestals may be mounted on soil, solid foundations, or elevated deck posts.
AZEK Building Products
New products for 2020 include additions to the TimberTech AZEK, PRO, and EDGE decking lines. TimberTech AZEK’s Multi-Width Decking offerings will add two new 7.25-inch wide boards in the Harvest Collection, brownstone and slate gray. TimberTech PRO’s Reserve Collection will offer four new colors—two grays and two browns—in a matte finish. TimberTech EDGE now includes the Prime+ Collection, which features two color blends with a scalloped profile and tight, straight-grain embossing pattern.
