Are you one of those individuals who dreams of creating a perfect backyard retreat? You flip through magazine after magazine, looking at the beautiful scenes and picturing what you would add to your own yard, if you only could. Unfortunately, your tight budget has stopped you from fulfilling your dreams.
Luckily for you, money doesn’t have to stand in your way anymore. With our help, you can have the outdoor dining and living space you have always wanted in just three short years.
Creating a Fantastic Outdoor Space
If you want to have the perfect outdoor living space, consider the following three year plan.
Year One
As you begin your first year, you should start with the basic structure of your outdoor area.
Remove any unwanted and overgrown plants.
Determine if there are any problems with the soil or drainage.
To save money, try to salvage as much as you are able to from your existing landscape. If you already have shade trees and shrubbery you like, don’t be afraid to keep them. If you don’t like them, however, don’t be afraid to toss them out.
Start large projects as soon as possible. Some of these projects, like decks, fencing, and patios can disrupt your landscape and damage your plants. Don’t start planting trees, flowers, grass, or bushes until you done with these big projects.
Once your projects are complete, begin adding in additional trees and plants. Smaller trees are less expensive and will adjust to being moved better than larger ones, so choose the size of your trees wisely. Be sure to measure your space though, so you can ensure you have enough space for all of your outdoor furniture and accessories.
Year Two
Once the groundwork has been laid for your outdoor space, you can begin filling it in with some of those items you have been dreaming about.
Install flower beds and more extensive shrubbery around fences to create better privacy. Make sure you don’t plant more than you can handle though. While they may look pretty, plants and shrubbery require a lot of work with watering, pruning, preening, and fertilizing.
Lay down paths. If you want to create paths to your outdoor living spaces, be sure to do them now.
Start purchasing your outdoor furniture. While you may not be able to afford all of the outdoor furniture you want for your backyard space, you can start with the basics. Purchase an outdoor dining table and a sectional during this year. Wicker or rattan furniture is best because it can stand up to the elements, is comfortable, and is easy to clean. These pieces of furniture will allow you to begin entertaining in your outdoor retreat and let you enjoy your hard work so far.
Year Three
As year three begins, you can finally put the finishing touches on your outdoor space.
Purchase additional outdoor wicker furniture. This may include day beds, love seats, covered benches, or even another wicker sectional. You can also take this time to purchase and install outdoor accessories like fireplaces and outdoor televisions.
Decorate your space with colourful throws, pillows, fountains, and drapes of fabric. Make your space feel comfortable and give it your own personal touch.
Don’t forget the lighting. Criss-cross twinkle lights over your outdoor dining table. Install lights along your paths. Be creative with your lighting so it enhances your space and allows you to entertain into the night.
Don’t let your budget stop you from creating the outdoor dining and living space of your dreams. Take charge with this three year plan so you can finally enjoy the retreat you have always dreamed of.
